Discover Park Place Drive-In

Walking into Park Place Drive-In for the first time feels like stepping into a place where locals have been gathering for decades, even if it’s your very first visit. Tucked along 102 W North Ave, Westminster, SC 29693, United States, this diner-style spot carries that unmistakable small-town charm where the parking lot fills up fast around lunch and everyone seems to know what they’re ordering before they reach the counter.

I stopped by on a weekday afternoon after hearing several locals mention best burgers in town and old-school drive-in vibes-both phrases earned their reputation. The menu is straightforward, which is exactly the point. You’ll find classic burgers, hot dogs, fries, and milkshakes without unnecessary frills. According to the National Restaurant Association, comfort food remains one of the most consistently popular dining choices in the U.S., especially in smaller communities, and Park Place Drive-In leans into that preference with confidence.

One thing that stood out immediately was how the food is prepared. Orders are cooked fresh, not pre-made, and you can tell by the way the burgers come off the grill-juicy, slightly crisp on the edges, and clearly hand-pressed. I watched the staff work through a steady flow of orders with an efficient rhythm that only comes from experience. That kind of process doesn’t happen overnight; it’s built through years of repetition and listening to customer feedback.

The burger I tried was simple but memorable. A soft bun, seasoned beef patty, melted cheese, and toppings that didn’t overpower the meat. It reminded me of what food researchers often point out: familiarity drives satisfaction. Studies from Cornell University’s Food and Brand Lab have shown that people rate familiar foods higher when they’re executed well, and that’s exactly what happens here. There’s nothing experimental on the plate, but everything tastes intentional.

Fries deserve their own mention. They’re cut thicker than fast-food versions, fried to a golden brown, and lightly salted. Pairing them with a milkshake-chocolate in my case-felt almost mandatory. Milkshakes remain one of the most ordered diner desserts nationwide, according to data from Technomic, and Park Place Drive-In clearly understands why. The texture is thick enough to need a spoon at first, which is always a good sign.

Reviews around town consistently highlight friendly service, and that matched my experience. The staff was quick, casual, and genuinely welcoming. One regular told me he stops by at least twice a week because consistent quality and fair prices keep him coming back. That kind of loyalty says more than any online rating ever could.

Location also plays a big role in its popularity. Being right on North Avenue makes it easy to swing by after work, between errands, or during a road trip through Westminster. While it’s not a flashy destination restaurant, it doesn’t try to be. Instead, it focuses on doing a few things really well, which aligns with what food industry experts often recommend for independent diners.

There are limitations worth mentioning. Seating can feel tight during peak hours, and the menu doesn’t cater much to dietary restrictions. If you’re looking for plant-based options or lighter fare, choices are limited. Still, that honesty is part of the appeal. This is a place that knows its identity and sticks to it.

From the steady stream of locals to the no-nonsense menu and well-practiced cooking process, Park Place Drive-In delivers exactly what a classic American diner should. Every visit feels grounded in routine, flavor, and community-qualities that are harder to find than ever, and the reason people keep pulling into the lot day after day.

  • They have the best ice cream. Huge variety of flavors. Classic sandwiches, build your own salad and hot dogs. Jelly Bellies and amazing sweet tea. You must go here for ice cream if nothing else.

  • An aesthetically pleasing old timey diner that you would not believe exists in Westminster. My mom and I stumbled across this diner on a weekday in search of lunch. We shared an egg salad and grilled cheese sandwich. Let me tell you, both were good, but the egg salad stole the show. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of mayo. I also ordered a cold brew coffee and surprisingly, it was very tasty. Service was good with the employees being very sweet and courteous, even walking us through the menu after we told them we have never been here before. Can’t wait to come back for ice cream!

  • Love that this place is at the end of my street! They have wonderful ice cream. My current favorite flavor is the Bourbon Praline Truffle...just amazing! The service is always friendly and fast. The only wait is when they are super busy, but they have enough people working to get orders out pretty fast. The 50's style diner atmosphere and music takes you back in time...simple living.

  • This is a wonderful little dessert shop! I felt like I was transported to a different time when I walked in. Definitely recommend you bring your children here! I went with a friend and had a good time!

  • Very nice place! I recommend the hotdogs. They were great. This place is also a vacation spot for Jelly Belly jelly beans fans. Many bagged varieties as well as many flavors or groups of flavors available by weight. You could even mix and match to your liking. If you have any room left this place is also ice cream heaven. Many great flavors that also change from time to time. Everything from a single scoop to chocolate sundaes, and if you dare... the Sasquatch Banana Split. Yup, I'm gonna have to go back. I'm positive that I'm leaving things out. Go by and check them out. You won't be sorry.

  • Stopped here randomly for a quick bite and ice cream while heading back to our campground, so happy I got to see the retro diner vibe as soon as I walked in the door! They have a limited menu, some hot and cold sandwiches, hot dogs, no frills. The ice cream is Hershey and I'll tell you that you can always tell a milkshake or sundae made with Hershey ice cream because of the uniquely perfect mix of rich flavor and smooth texture. I got a medium chocolate milkshake (basic, I know, but I have nut allergies) and was trying to not rudely slurp the rest of it when the restaurant quickly became a full-house after we entered! Thankfully beat the crowd that the storm drove in, with the rest of my party getting scoops of ice cream in waffle cones. We all were pleased and glad to have stopped here! They also have stuffed shakes/sundaes, so every range of sweet tooth will be satisfied! If you're passing through Westminster or are a local already, you should definitely be making the play to stop here. Fun, throwback atmosphere, very pleasant service, and big fans of the ice cream!
